New Build and Retrofitting
Advanced Parallel Hybrid Ship Solution with 60/200/300 kW Motor/Generator Power.
The VED (Variable Hybrid Drive) is a transmission system suitable for small to medium applications. Its design allows easy installation on board and maintenance for hybrid drive train. The gear or belt transmission is designed to achieve the best reliability and an optimal vibroacoustic isolation. The sound-absorption canopy combined with resilient mounts and shaft coupling are able to significantly reduce both air-borne and structural-borne noise. The Variable Hybrid Drive is engineered to be installed on the marine gearbox output, its reduction ratio (2.5:1 or 3:1) enables the adoption of low torque e-machines, guaranteeing a good matching with the propeller demand.

When the operator selects the electric mode, the marine gearbox is set on neutral to disconnect diesel engine from the propeller shaft. The e-machine drives the propeller shaft directly through the hybrid transmission. The diesel engine can be switched off.
Selecting the diesel mode button will command the marine gearbox to clutch in. The propulsion will turn in a standard diesel driven propulsion. In this navigation mode the e-machine can be used as a shaft generator to feed the onboard electric demand and/or recharge batteries.
